Conn Eb Clarinet Albert System Double Wall High Pitch. Made between 1890 and 1901, this was Conn's first metal clarinet. Made with double walls, the interior and exterior dimensions mimic a wood clarinet. These clarinets have their own serial number series that does not correlate with the Conn woodwind serial number sequence that was started in 1895. Most if not all of these Conns were Albert System and high pitch. Serial number is 2355 and matches on both upper and lower body joints. It is believed that about 10,000 of these were made between 1890 and 1901. Clarinet has very old pads, I could play through the leaks and go from G to low E. I compared to my Selmer France Eb and I believe it to be high pitch so not useable in modern bands and orchestra. Probably around A=455. No case but includes a vintage wooden mouthpiece. Might be markings on it but too worn to be sure. Probably a very close facing requiring a hard reed. This will fit in a modern Eb case. Instrument was played enough that the nickle plate has worn away around the finger holes. Will need new corks and pads to be a good player. All keys move as they should. A really interesting piece of American band instrument history. These Conn double wall clarinets are rarely seen.
